Anti-Cancer Activity of Ethanolic Extract from ‘Bao’ Mango (Mangifera indica) Peel and Its Nanoencapsulation Against Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Cell Lines
Journal: ChemNanoMat, 2024
Key Finding: This study revealed the potent anti-cancer properties of an extract from ‘Bao’ mango peels, a local Thai fruit. Our nanoencapsulation technology dramatically amplified its effectiveness against aggressive triple-negative breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231). Key findings include:
- Enhanced Cancer Cell Inhibition: Our chitosan-PLGA encapsulated mango peel extract (CS-PLGA-(MPE)) significantly decreased cancer cell viability to 52%, a much greater effect than the 72% viability observed with the free, unencapsulated extract.
- Drastic Reduction in Metastasis Potential: The encapsulated extract was vastly more effective at halting cancer cell motility. It inhibited cell migration and invasion down to approximately 3%, a massive improvement over the ~28% migration and ~21% invasion seen with the free extract.
Business Implication: This research is a powerful demonstration of our ability to take a promising natural compound and elevate it into a significantly more potent therapeutic agent. By enhancing the anti-cancer and anti-metastatic properties of the mango peel extract, we prove our platform’s value in developing novel oncology treatments from natural sources. This opens up opportunities for partnership in creating high-efficacy, low-toxicity cancer therapies.
